National Academies for the Performing Arts

Description – Two Academies for the Performing Arts were established in North and South Trinidad in 2009. The Port of Spain Academy, which was built at the Princess Building Grounds features a 1,460-seat theatre, a 59 room hotel, the Performance Art Academy, as well as, auxiliary facilities.

The Academy at San Fernando, to be built at Todd Street San Fernando will feature a 1,000-seat theatre, a 190-seat multi-functional hall, the Performance Art Academy, as well as a hotel.

The Academies will be used mainly for performances and the teaching and training of persons in music. In addition, the Academies when completed will provide high quality, state of the art facilities for our artistes.

Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)

Description – In order to facilitate a seamless education system and improve the delivery of Early Childhood Care and Education, curriculum guides have been completed and introduced. A Training Plan has also been implemented to accredit teachers on a phased basis.

In addition, over one hundred Government & Government Assisted Early Childhood Care and Education Centres will have been established the short term, each with a capacity to accommodate fifty children. These Centres have been built to reflect the highest quality design and are equipped with appropriate furniture and equipment in keeping with the teaching, learning and developmental requirements for cognitive and social development of preschoolers.

The construction of these Centres is a principal achievement of the Government’s vision of Universal Early Childhood Care and Education. The goal was to build 600 Centre by the year 2010 & to cater for 30,000 three to four year olds. Through the Education Facilities Company, the Ministry of Education was able to build these Centres.
